Lucy’s Seasonal Wine Selections

If you’re as indecisive as I am, sometimes you just need someone to narrow down your options to make things easier. As our wine range grows, it still feels important to resist the potential overwhelm of offering too much choice, but nonetheless we’re regularly adding new bottles and so I’ve put together a couple of seasonal selections to help with the decision-making.

And because spending can get out of hand at this time of year, I’ve picked some delicious wines that were already great value and put an additional discount on top. Every case is £98 which gives you bottles normally priced between £17.50 and £21.00 for an average of £16.33 per bottle.

These are 6-bottle cases – you only need to choose white, red or mixed and that’s an easy tick off your list for the coming weeks of hosting and feasting!

Buchanans Wine Room White Case

WHITE CASE

3 x Gavi del Comune di Gavi ‘Fossili’, San Silvestro, 2024

From a fourth generation family winery south of Turin, now run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano who have achieved an Equalitas certification for their sustainably cultivated vineyards. Made using Cortese grapes grown on the hills near Gavi, not far from the Ligurian Sea. Fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for freshness and rested on fine lees for 6 months for added texture and complexity.

Full of mineral, zesty citrus and floral notes. Super fresh on the palate with an appealing green apple and crystalline lemon flavour. A mouthwatering mineral finish, a refreshing foil to rich dishes or a great aperitif.

3 x Cassandre, Maison Ventenac, 2024

A fresh Rolle (also known as Vermentino) from organic winemakers Stéphanie & Olivier Ramé, a husband-and-wife team and the third generation of their family to run the show at Maison Ventenac. Their vineyards are in Languedoc-Roussillon around the village of Ventenac-Cabardès, famed for its chalky soils that lends the wine a fresh, saline character.

Ripe white peach and notes of blossom and tangerine are complemented by a clean, fresh, grassy character on the finish. A great pairing for a hard sheep’s cheese or an accompaniment to seafood.

Buchanans Wine Room Red Case

RED CASE

3 x Nero d’Avola, Mandrarossa, 2024

In sunny southwestern Sicily (and indeed powered by solar panels), sustainable winery, Cantine Settesoli, makes wines using grapes from a cooperative of vineyards around Selinunte. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks and aged for 3–5 months before bottling. This Nero d’Avola is a stalwart on our shelves for good reason.

Aromas of black cherries, plums and red berries. Medium bodied, fresh but juicy, velvety with intense fruit flavours, light tannins and good length.

3 x Le P’tit Pinot, Bruno Lafon, 2024

Bruno Lafon grew up in Burgundy, learning to make wine at the family winery, the prestigious Domaine des Comtes Lafon. He moved to the south of France, dreaming of making high class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Languedoc-Roussillon, selecting rarefied sites with cooler aspects to help translate that Burgundian style to the south. Fermented in stainless steel tanks for a purely fruit-forward wine.

A light, fresh and juicy Pinot Noir with plenty of strawberry, raspberry and cherry aromas. Easy-drinking and ideal for cheese and charcuterie, raclette or fondue, and Boxing Day leftovers when you’re craving something light and fresh.
